The New Chilean Song: An analysis from the perspective of cultural history

The New Chilean Song constitutes one of the greatest cultural and musical phenomena in the history of Chile. Emerged in the early 1960s, it emerges as a cornerstone in the creation of new forms of folklore, linked to portraying the social and political. This work seeks to examine from the historiographical approach of the new cultural history and from auditory sources (relevant songs chosen), the development of the NCCh during the government of Salvador Allende and the military dictatorship, in addition to establishing the conditions in which this movement is maintained in a current globalized world. The results point to the construction of a popular cultural identity in Chile today.
